Swimming lessons offered

The Smith-Hazel Recreation Center pool is offering American Red Cross swimming lessons.

The lessons are offered Monday through Thursday in two-week sessions. Four sessions will be available this summer during the day and evening.

Swimming lessons are available for children, adults and those with disabilities.

Entries sought for juried competition

Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art is accepting entries for A Sense of Place 2013 juried fine arts competition.

The contest is open to U.S. artists ages 18 and older. Entries must be original, not previously exhibited at the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art and completed on or after June 1, 2011. Entries can be created in the following media: painting, drawing, mixed media, printmaking, photography, ceramics and sculpture.

Entries must be postmarked or hand delivered by May 31.

Sidewalk Sale held at Odell Weeks

The Aiken County Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department will play host to the first sidewalk sale at Odell Weeks on June 8.

Anyone wanting to clear out a closet or a garage is invited to rent a table at the sale. Spaces are available for $15 for a 10x10 table. Additional tables are available for a fee. The sale will be open to the public from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m. or until everything sells.

Proceeds will benefit the Smith Hazel Seniors. Registration is available at Odell Weeks Activities Center, 1700 Whiskey Road, or at the Smith Hazel Recreation Center, 400 Kershaw St. NE.
