Once the city’s park-and-ride facility is constructed, carpoolers will no longer have to use shopping center lots to meet and park.
The facility will be on a 5.7-acre property between Austin Graybill Road and the on-ramp to Interstate 20 westbound. There will be about 225 parking spaces and a transit loading lane that will allow for carpool pick-up and drop-off.
North Augusta City Council on April 15 voted to use $40,000 of a $182,240 credit from the South Carolina Department of Transportation to fund its portion of the project. Another $1.2 million will be provided by the department of transportation and federal funding sources for the project.
Once constructed, the city will be responsible for maintaining the facility, including landscaping, lighting and security.
