Swimming lessons offered
The Smith-Hazel Recreation Center pool will offer American Red Cross swimming lessons starting May 1.
The lessons are offered Monday through Thursday in two-week sessions. Four sessions will be available this summer during the day and evening.
Swimming lessons are available for children, adults and those with disabilities.

Golden Harvest competing for funds
Golden Harvest Food Bank is competing to be one of 40 food banks to receive a $45,000 grant from Walmart.
Through April 30, people can vote by going to Golden Harvest’s Facebook page. A Facebook account is required to vote.
Entries sought for juried competition
Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art is accepting entries for A Sense of Place 2013 juried fine arts competition.
The contest is open to U.S. artists ages 18 and older. Entries must be original, not previously exhibited at the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art and completed on or after June 1, 2011. Entries can be created in the following media: painting, drawing, mixed media, printmaking, photography, ceramics and sculpture.
Entries must be postmarked or hand delivered by May 31.

Congressman to host Veterans Fair
U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson will sponsor a Veterans Fair on Monday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Aiken Technical College, 2276 Jefferson Davis Highway, Graniteville.
The fair will include representatives from veterans’ organizations, government agencies, local employers and other organizations.

Auditions for play
Auditions for Edgefield County Theater’s summer production, Second Samuel will be held Sunday and Monday at 7 p.m. at the theater on Main Street in Edgefield.
There are roles for seven men ages 17 and older, including one role for a black male. Four women ages 20 and older are needed. The performance will be held the first two weekends June and be directed by Bradley Watts.
