She came in needing help for her children. She did not want to be there; that was obvious. But she had no other choice. She had given up a good job in order to take a better one. Less than three weeks later, the “better” job came to an abrupt end, and she was laid off.
Unemployment compensation was out of the question because she had voluntarily left her first job and had not been on the new one long enough to qualify.
“I don’t know what will come of us. We were doing good, and I thought this job would benefit me and my kids. But it all went bad. Now we may lose what we had.”
She needed warm clothes for her children because they had outgrown what they had the year before. She needed food and help with her power bill to keep from being disconnected.
The Community Ministry of North Augusta has been helping folks like this for more than 26 years. It is a charity supported by North Augusta churches and residents, exclusively for qualifying North Augusta residents or members of supporting churches.
