The North Augusta Junior Women’s League will have its second annual Roasting on the River on Saturday.
The event will be at 6 p.m. at Boeckh Park and will feature an oyster roast, barbecue from BBQ Barn, a cash bar and raffles for trips, jewelry, entertainment and more.
The league organized in 2011, and its first project was working with the Golden Harvest Food Bank’s BackPack program. Since then, it has expanded its mission to meet a variety of needs of children attending Belvedere, Hammond Hill, Mossy Creek and North Augusta elementary schools.
“We want to do what we can to help the children in our community,” said Cindy Huckaby, one of the league’s board members.
The league, which comprises 19 members, adopted needy families for Thanksgiving and Christmas and has provided items such as eyeglasses and shoes for children in the local schools.
Tickets for Saturday’s event are $25 and be purchased at the event. Proceeds from Saturday’s event will help the league’s efforts. Future plans include adopting families for spring break and providing meals for the children during the week.
