North Augusta’s mayor and a local dentist will be held captive Friday – but for a good cause.
Mayor Lark Jones and Dr. John Newell will be held at Grace United Methodist Church’s Wesley Center for the Captives for a Cause fundraiser, said administrator Marianne Harlan.
“It’s a fundraiser to raise money for missions,” said Harlan. “They will be in ‘jail’ until we raise money to get them out.”
Jones and Newell will be “locked up” starting at 6:30 p.m. The bail for each is $5,000.
The proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit two mission trips planned for this summer.
One trip is a mission trip to Give Kids the World, a retreat for children with terminal illnesses and their families, in Kissimmee, Fla. Volunteers will assist with the organization’s various needs.
The other mission trip is to Bolivia to help with construction on a church.
During the event, each of the church’s four praise bands and its children’s guitar group will perform. There is no admission for the concert and refreshments will be provided.
Donations can be made during the event or at the church office before the event, Harlan said.
