Aldi has opened its newest store on Bobby Jones Expressway in Augusta. Aldi is unlike grocery stores most people are familiar with. Shoppers at the Aldi in Aiken on Whiskey Road already know that.
Aldi accepts only cash, debit cards and EBT cards. By not having the fees associated with credit card companies and returned check fees, they can keep prices lower.
You also need to have a quarter with you because this is how you will get a shopping cart. The carts have a box on them you insert a quarter in to release them from the stall.
When you bring it back and hook it up to the cart in front, you get your quarter back. If you are a frequent shopper of Aldi, it is best to just keep a quarter in your car for the shopping cart.
You will need to bring your own grocery bags as well. When checking out, the cashier rings up your groceries and they go back into your cart. After paying you then move over to the packing area to package your groceries.
You will notice when you walk into Aldi that it looks different. Most grocery stores carry thousands of brands of items. According to Aldi’s Web site, it carries only 1,400. Instead of having the choice of 10 brands of peanut butter, they carry one brand. Yes, there are some name brands there but the majority is their brand.
Aldi has a double guarantee on its merchandise, which you can also find on its Web site. It states that if you are not 100 percent satisfied with an item, Aldi will replace it and give you a refund. Of course, there are exclusions, which are nonfood special buys, alcohol and national brands.
Aldi does not accept coupons. You will save enough money on its products without using coupons that you can tell a difference.
Aldi has the normal departments you would find in a grocery store, just on a smaller scale. They offer canned and boxed goods, produce, dairy, frozen, meat, some HBA products, and alcohol products as well. They generally carry the items that the trends say are the most used or purchased items in grocery stores so you can be sure to find them there.
If you want to check them out online, you can find them at www.aldi.com. They tell you everything you need to know about the store. You can also find helpful things such as recipes, an online photo service, the weekly specials and ads, and a Smartphone app. You can sign up for weekly e-mail alerts of their specials and offers.
In Augusta, the store hours are 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. Sunday. In Aiken, the hours are 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. Monday-Saturday, noon until 6 p.m. Sunday.
If you have never tried Aldi for your grocery purchases, you should pay their store a visit. Even though you might not find everything you would normally purchase, you can find some items that will help to reduce your grocery bill.
