Cynthia Golson-Steele set out to solve a dilemma many organizations found themselves in.
“I do a lot of networking with different organizations and a lot of them did not have a place to meet,” she said.
As a solution, she opened Charisma Event Centre in the Gabriel Station plaza on Edgefield Road in September.
“It’s a rental facility, a nice space to have events such as small, intimate parties, bridal showers, baby showers, dinners and other social events,” she said. “We are also available for business meetings, small conferences and seminars.”
In theater style, the venue can accommodate up to 60 people. With tables, the venue can accommodate about 45 to 50 people.
The venue also offers event planning to help organizations that need assistance in organizing their event.
“I try to find out what kind of look or design they are going for,” said Melissa Coles, the event coordinator. “I cater to them.”
“They give her the vision and she turns the vision into a reality for them,” added Golson-Steele.
Those renting the facility also have access to a photographer and caterer if they need one. The venue has a partnership with a photography company, At Last Productions, and a caterer, Memorable Affairs Catering.
The venue can also meet audiovisual needs through its smart television, which works with laptops, iPods and iPads, and can access the Internet. Chashawna Wesby, the program director, assists with setting up the audiovisual system.
“We use that as opposed to a screen and projector,” said Golson-Steele. “I wanted to do something a little bit different.”
The venue also hosts activities of its own such as Zumba classes and, in February, line dance classes, she said.
In the future, she would like to also offer health and nutrition classes and partner with other local businesses to teach life skills classes and educate young people on a variety of topics.
“I want to be a resource for the community,” she said.
