Aiken business gets award
Aiken Pest Control recently received the 2012 Angie’s List Super Service Award.
The award is given to 5 percent of the companies rated on Angie’s List. It is the second year the business has received the award.
Day use passes available
The 2013 passes for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers day use recreation areas are available.
The pass costs $30 and is valid for 12 months from the date of purchase.
Day use areas include boat launch ramps, designated swimming beaches and picnic areas. The pass does not cover campground use and fees.
Passes can be purchased at J. Strom Thurmond Lake Visitor Center, 510 Clarks Hill Highway, Clarks Hill; Sportman’s Center in North Augusta; the Augusta Marine in Augusta; and Cliatt’s Crossing in Lincolnton, Ga.
Trip to garden show planned
City of Aiken Parks, Recreation and Tourism and Cold Creek Nurseries have scheduled a public day trip to the Southern Home and Garden Show in Charlotte, N.C.
The show is March 2 at the Park Expo and Conference Center. The trip will last from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and is open to ages 18 and older. A moderate amount of walking is required.
The cost of the trip is $59 and includes transportation, parking and admission to the show. Attendees must pay for their own lunch at the show.

Auditions for musical
ENOPIAN Theatre Company is having auditions for the upcoming The Story of Noah and His Great Big Gopher Boat musical production.
Parts are available for men and women ages 18 and older.
The musical will be performed March 14-16 and 21-23 at the Kroc Center in Augusta.

Shero Awards nominations
The Sisters Only Club is accepting nominations for the seventh annual Shero Awards.
The Shero Awards honor women ages 18 and up in the following categories: health and social services, arts, law and government/armed forces, community service, business, faith and spirituality, and education.
Two nominees will be selected for the special categories of 96.3 KISS FM Vision Award and Shero Awards Woman of the Year.
Nominees will be honored at the Shero Awards event March 23 at the Kroc Center.
Organization to host Prom-A-Palooza
The Sisters Only Club will have a Prom-A-Palooza from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 9 at May Park Community Center in Augusta.
The event is for teen girls who would like to attend their school’s prom or ROTC ball and are experiencing a financial hardship, being raised by their grandparents, living in foster care or are recommended by an Independent Living Program.

The Fresh Market will have a career open house Feb. 6 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Bags of Love being collected
The Edgefield County Chamber of Commerce and Edgefield County Senior Citizens Council are collecting Bags of Love for senior citizens in the community.
The bags will be distributed for Valentine’s Day to homebound senior citizens.
Suggested items to include in bags are a Valentine’s Day card, soap, toothpaste, band-aids, antiseptic cream, cotton balls, wash cloths, artificial sweetener, magnifying glass, calendars, devotional books, sugar-free candy, eye drops, tissue, books, toothbrush, hand lotion, blankets and stretch gloves.
Bags should be dropped off by 12:30 p.m. Feb. 8 at Edgefield County Chamber of Commerce, 416 Calhoun Street, Johnston.
