Volunteers needed

Georgia Health Sciences University’s Cancer Center is seeking volunteers.

Aiken Pest Control receives award

Aiken Pest Control recently received the 2012 Angie’s List Super Service Award.

The award is given to 5 percent of the companies rated on Angie’s List. It is the second year the business has received the award.

Day use passes available

The 2013 annual passes for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers day use recreation areas are available.

The annual pass costs $30 and is valid for 12 months from the date of purchase.

Day use areas include boat launch ramps, designated swimming beaches and picnic areas. The pass does not cover campground use and fees.

Passes can be purchased locally at J. Strom Thurmond Lake Visitor Center, 510 Clarks Hill Highway, Clarks Hill; Sportman’s Center in North Augusta; the Augusta Marine in Augusta; and Cliatt’s Crossing in Lincolnton.

Day trip to garden show planned

City of Aiken Parks, Recreation and Tourism and Cold Creek Nurseries have scheduled a public day trip the Southern Home and Garden Show in Charlotte, N.C.

The show is March 2 at the Park Expo and Conference Center. The trip will last from 7:30 a.m. to about 6:30 p.m. and is open to those ages 18 and older. A moderate amount of walking is required.

The cost of the trip is $59 and includes transportation, parking and admission to the show. Attendees must pay for their own lunch which will be available at the show.

Gardening lecture

The Aiken Master Gardener Association will have its January lecture of the Lunch Box Series at 12:30 p.m. Monday at Trinity United Methodist Church, 2724 Whiskey Road in Aiken.

Master gardener Betty Crowther will discuss how to start plants from seeds indoors. Aiken master gardeners will have samples of seeds for heirloom plants. The Gardening Almanac for Aiken and Vicinity will also be available for $15.

The lecture is free and participants are welcome to bring a lunch or snack to eat during the lecture.

Lunch Box Series gardening lectures are held at 12:30 p.m. the third Monday of each month from January through October at Trinity United Methodist Church. For more information about the association or the series, visit www.aikenmastergardeners.org or call (803) 649-6297 ext. 122.

Auditions for musical

ENOPIAN Theatre Company is having auditions for the upcoming The Story of Noah and His Great Big Gopher Boat musical production.

Parts are available for men and women ages 18 and older.

The musical will be performed March 14-16 and March 21-23 at the Kroc Center in Augusta.
