Instagram Challenge

The Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art is sponsoring the #GertrudeHerbert75 InstaChallenge.

Participants are encouraged to take photos that represent the institute for potential inclusion in a juried Instagram exhibition. Photos can capture the institute’s buildings, classes, its artwork or other aspects of the institute. The image can be filtered in any way the participant chooses and uploaded to Instagram. The image should be accompanied by the “#GertrudeHerbert75” hashtag. A short description and geotag for the institute’s location can also be added.

The deadline to participate is Monday. A panel of jurors will choose 75 images to include in the InstaChallege Exhibition.

New wellness center opens

The Wilson Family Y has opened a new Total Access Wellness Center at 3570 Wheeler Road in Augusta.

The center provides adapted fitness equipment “ for both able-bodied and disabled members”, according to a news release.

Company awarded for health programs

Shaw AREVA MOX Services recently earned the 2012 Worksite Innovation Award from the American Heart Association for the second consecutive year.

The company received the award for its MOX Summer Games program. Each week for six weeks, participants competed in physical challenges such as running, walking, push-ups, jump rope and hula hoop, according to a news release.

The company also received a Fit-Friendly Gold designation from the American Heart Association for promoting the health of its employees and creating a culture supportive of physical activity. This was the fifth time the company has received the designation.

Human Resources chapter recognized

The CSRA Society of Human Resource Management was recently recognized with the Pinnacle Award.

The Society for Human Resource Management gives the award to affiliates who have developed innovative workforce programs.

The CSRA SHRM chapter received the award for collaborating with the Augusta Judicial Circuit Drug Court to provide work readiness training to those who are about to complete the drug court’s rehabilitation program, according to a news release.

The chapter was one of nine affiliates to receive the award. Each received a $1,000 prize.

Red Cross launches holiday campaign

The American Red Cross has launched its annual holiday fundraising campaign.

People can go to www.redcross.org/gifts to make a donation in honor of someone. The donations will help to provide items such as infant care kits for babies in emergency shelters, comfort kits for wounded military members and water containers for areas affected by natural disasters.

Children’s Medical Center fundraiser

The 2012 Cares for Kids Radiothon will be held Dec. 6-7 from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Dec. 8 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The radiothon benefits the Georgia Health Sciences Children’s Medical Center.

WBBQ 104.3 FM and WKSP 96.3 FM will broadcast from the lobby of the medical center during the radiothon.

More than $161,000 was raised during the radiothon last year.

5K run/walk to benefit The Lydia Project

Lights for Lydia 5K Run/Walk will be held Dec. 8 at Lake Olmstead Park, 2200 Broad Street, Augusta.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. followed by the race at 9 a.m. There will also be a one-mile fun run for children. The event will also feature a raffle and vendors. Prizes will be awarded to all age groups.

The registration fee is $25 in advance and $30 the day of the race. Discounts are available for students and members of the military. Participants can register at www.raceit.com or www.active.com.

Proceeds will go toward building a new Lydia House in Augusta. The house will provide support and a place to stay for women traveling to Augusta for cancer treatments and their families.
