City tree lighting will be Tuesday

The North Augusta Christmas Tree Lighting Festival will be held Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Calhoun Park and at Lookaway Inn.

The tree lighting will take place about 6 p.m. in Calhoun Park after remarks from Mayor Lark Jones.

The event will also feature a variety of activities including entertainment by North Augusta High School band, Paul Knox Middle School choir, Bill Karp Jazz and other area musicians; a display of Henry Wynn’s art; a chili cook-off; a Bouncy Box; and a special appearance by Santa.

Vendors will be present with popcorn, hot coco and marshmallow roasting.

Donors sought

Donors are needed for the Christmas Store, an outreach to provide assistance to area families during the holiday season.

People may donate items for a child such as clothing and gifts. Those interested in becoming a donor should contact Louvenia Mathews at (803) 279-2737 or Lori Mathews at (803) 270-8960 to get a list of gift choices and other information such as clothing and shoe sizes.

Donors may select the age group they would like to sponsor, but are asked to keep in mind that older children will also need sponsorship.

Gifts must be turned in Dec. 18-20 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at First Baptist Church of North Augusta’s Family Life Center.
