Fraud suspect sought

North Augusta Public Safety is asking for help in finding a man who has withdrawn nearly $6,000 from an SRP Federal Credit Union bank account.

According to a news release, a woman’s purse was taken in Richmond County.

Since then, her account has been accessed in North Augusta and Richmond and Columbia counties.

Anyone with information is asked to public safety at (803) 279-2121.

Robbery suspect arrested

An Augusta man who has been accused of committing a string of armed robberies with his brother at local Walmarts was also linked to an armed robbery at Kroger in North Augusta.

North Augusta investigators have warrants for two counts of pointing and presenting a firearm, armed robbery and possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime for Calvin Thomas Jr., 31, who was arrested by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

On Oct. 26, Thomas and his 24-year-old brother, Kelvin Thomas, were charged in Richmond County in connection with four armed robberies in Walmart parking lots in Augusta and North Augusta.

Richmond County officers

said the men were seen on video following people who had recently cashed checks into the parking lot, where they robbed them.

At the time of their arrest, deputies discovered marijuana plants in their home, resulting in Calvin Thomas’ additional charge of manufacture of marijuana.

North Augusta Public Safety Lt. Tim Thornton said the black van used in the Walmart robberies matched the description of the one used in a robbery at Kroger.

North Augusta officers were called around 9:15 p.m. Oct. 24 to the North Augusta Kroger, where a woman said a man had demanded her purse and said he would kill her 6-year-old son if she didn’t comply.
