Child abuse prevention

Child Enrichment, Inc. will offer a child sexual abuse workshop, Darkness to Light: Stewards for Children, on Sept. 13 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Kroc Center, 1833 Broad St., Augusta.

The workshop educates adults on how to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. The program is designed for parents and organizations that serve children and youth.

Homes for Heroes

Homes for Heroes, a program that helps those who serve the community and nation, such as police officers, military, firefighters, teachers and first responders, is now available to people in Augusta.

The program is offered in 44 states.

Applications being taken

The Aiken Department of Public Safety is offering a nine-week program that gives people a look into the department’s operations.

Citizen’s Public Safety Academy will start Sept. 13. Participants will meet each Thursday from 6:30 to 9 p.m. The instructors, who are members of the public safety profession, will cover a variety of topics including basic patrol functions, firefighting, use of force, community policing, traffic safety and criminal investigations.

To participate in the program, one must submit an application and agree to a background check. Applications can be found at Aiken Public Safety headquarters, 251 Laurens St. NW, Aiken or online at www.cityofaikensc.gov.
