• Children who will be going to school in the Aiken County school district for the first time can be registered Monday-Thursday at their zoned school. Parents must provide a birth certificate, Social Security number, immunization card or form and proof of residency for the child. Those entering 4K must be 4 years old by Sept. 1; those entering kindergarten must be 5 years old by Sept. 1; and those entering first grade must be 6 years old by Sept. 1.

• Parents of Aiken County school district students can pay for their child’s lunch using lunch
prepay.com. The site allows parents to access their child’s account 24 hours a day, pay for multiple children’s accounts with a single payment, see 90 school calendar days of purchases and payments, and more. • Free and reduced applications for Aiken County school district students can be completed online at www.lunchapplication.com. To sign in, parents must have their child’s Power School ID number, which can be obtained through the child’s school office, the school schedule or School Food Service Department at (803) 641-2520.

• The Area I Advisory Council will meet Aug. 9 at 5:30 p.m. at 105 Gator Lane, behind the Aiken Middle School entrance. The meeting is open to the public.

David McKie, of North Augusta, is a member of the inaugural class of Limestone College’s masters degree program in business administration.

• Registration will be held as follows: Today, 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. Please bring birth certificate, South Carolina immunization record and proof of residency, such as an electric or water bill.

• School begins Aug. 20. The school will open at 7 a.m. for breakfast, which is served until 7:20 a.m. The tardy bell rings at 7:30 a.m.

• Parents can apply for free or reduced lunch at www.lunchapplication.com.

• Box Tops, Campbell’s soup labels, My Coke Rewards, Tyson chicken labels, used ink cartridges and recyclable cellphones are being collected.

• Registration is open for the 2012-13 school year.

• Registration for juniors and seniors is Aug. 8 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration for freshmen and sophomores is Aug. 9 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration will be in the commons/cafeteria area on both days. To register, parents should bring the birth certificate, Social Security card and immunization record. The instructional material fee is $75. If the student is going to drive to school for the school year, there is an extra $25 fee.

• In celebration of the school’s 60th anniversary, the School Improvement Council and the Parent Teacher Organization have partnered to renovate the courtyard. The multi-year project will include a picnic plaza, an amphitheater, a water feature and a garden with green space. People may purchase a commemorative brick to support the courtyard project. Contact the school for information.

• Pupils are asked to send in postcards from places they are vacationing this summer. The postcards will be displayed on a bulletin board. Be sure to write a couple lines about your vacation. Pupils who send in postcards will be entered into a drawing for a prize. Address postcards to: Hammond Hill Elementary School, 901 W. Woodlawn Ave., North Augusta, SC 29841.

• Summer registration is today from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the cafeteria. The registration fee is $45. Pupils who qualify for free or reduced lunches can qualify for free or reduced fees. All new or returning pupils must provide proof of residency such as a copy of a current utility bill, lease agreement or sales contract. New pupils will also need to provide a birth certificate and immunization record. The cafeteria manager will be available to assist with new lunch forms. Information on being a parent volunteer and the school’s PTO will be available. New school spirit T-shirts can be purchased during registration for $12 each. Parents can also register their child with the after-school care program provider, Quest Zone.

• Registration for seventh- and eighth-grade pupils will be Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Registration fees are $28. New pupils who have not attended school in the Edgefield County School District will need to bring the following to register: a birth certificate, Social Security card, immunization record, the child’s report card from the last school they attended, and proof of residency, such as a tax, electric, gas or water bill, or rental lease agreement.

• Summer registration will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today.

• The computer lab needs new computers and headphones. Items are being sold on eBay as a fundraiser for the lab. To donate an item, contact Karen Doom at kmomster@gmail.com. Donations can be made through Smartkids.sc on eBay.

• The third-grade gifted and talented class is creating a South Carolina ‘‘I Spy’’ Garden. Items needed include: a small peach tree, blue granite stones, pieces of amethyst, state flag, lettered olive shells, Yellow Jessamine plants, palmetto trees, collard greens and goldenrod flowers as seeds or plants, and large stepping stones.

• The following PTO positions are open for the 2012-13 school year: co-president, vice president, treasurer, secretary and volunteer coordinator. Help is also needed with the yearbook and parents are needed to take pictures, edit and work with pupils. If interested in serving, leave your name, contact information, name of child and position you are interested in with Principal Laurie Reese.

• Early registration will be held 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today-Thursday. Regular registration is 8 to 11 a.m. and noon to 3 p.m. Monday-Tuesday. Late registration is noon to 6 p.m. Aug. 15. Parents of new pupils will be required to show proof of residence in the parent’s name, current immunization record, original birth certificate and proof of income for 4K pupils. Parents of returning pupils must show proof of residence in the parent’s name by showing a bill from July or August.

• Pupils and their parents can meet teachers from 2 to 4 p.m. Aug. 17.

• The first day of school is Aug. 20.

• There will be a PTO/Title I Open House at 6 p.m. Aug. 27. Parents can visit classrooms after the meeting.

• Send a postcard from your summer vacation to the school to be displayed on a bulletin board. There will be a drawing held from all postcards received and one pupil will receive a prize.

• Registration for 2012-13 is as follows: today, noon to 6 p.m., freshmen and seniors; Thursday, noon to 6 p.m., sophomores and juniors; and make-up day, Monday, noon to 6 p.m.

• Parents, if your number has changed or you have moved, please call to update your information.

• Sixth-grade orientation will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 17. Lunch will not be provided.

• Pupils can pick up schedules for the 2012-13 year from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today. Proof of residency must be provided, such as a water or electric bill.

• School supply lists are available at stores, such as Walmart, Kmart and Office Depot. Copies are also available in the main office.

• Pupils who are in English I for the 2012-13 school year need to check the school’s Web site weekly for reading assignments/projects. The Web site is naugm.acps.schoolfusion.us.

• The media center is accepting donations of new and used books.

• The PTO collects Box Tops, used ink cartridges and My Coke Rewards.

School fees are: regular fee, $50; those who receive reduced lunch, $25; band pupils, $56; gifted and talented pupils, $60; and pupils in both band and gifted and talented, $66. Pupils who receive free lunch do not have to pay a registration fee. Parents are asked to provide a copy of current proof of residency such as a power or water bill, lease agreement or sales contract.
