Group steals $300 worth of cigarettes
Three men and a woman stole $300 worth of cigarettes while checking out groceries around 6:30 p.m. July 8.
According to a North Augusta Public Safety incident report, the group came through the cigarette aisle at Food Lion, 135 Market Plaza Drive, and began to stack groceries onto the conveyor belt, obstructing the cashier’s view.
As the cashier scanned items, the suspects reached across the aisle and took about six cartons of cigarettes from the other side. They then left without paying for anything, according to the report.
Each carton was valued at about $50.
A former employee of the Hammond House assisted living home, 128 Walnut Lane, was accused of taking several controlled substance medications from the facility’s drug storage area on July 8.
According to a North Augusta Public Safety incident report, 62 pills of Valium, 56 pills of Ativan and one 30 mL vial of liquid morphine were missing during the employee’s shift and the narcotic medication log was improperly documented by the employee.
An in-house incident report said that a witness saw the employee putting medications in her pocket.
The employee refused to comply with the in-house investigation of the missing drugs and was been terminated, according to the public safety report. The incident is being further investigated by public safety.
Shoplifting suspect captured in woods
A 20-year-old North Augusta man ran from Walmart, 1201 Knox Ave., and briefly hid in the wooded area after he was caught shoplifting on July 10.
Franklin Ryan Doungahnont, of the 200 block of Stevie Seymour Street, was seen selecting several items in the sporting good section, including a golf glove, according to a North Augusta Public Safety incident report.
He then went to the next aisle and hid the items in his pants before leaving the store. After an employee stopped him, Doungahnont gave the items to her and then ran toward Sonic.
He then hid in the wooded area between Walmart and Belk before being caught and arrested, according to the report.
While he was running, he had wrapped up an air soft pistol in a shirt and threw it into the wooded area. The shirt and pistol were found, the report stated.
Doungahnont was charged with shoplifting less than $2,000 first offense and placed on trespass notice from Walmart.
