The 11U North Augusta Riverdawgs played in the USSSA State Championship held in Aiken at Citizen Park on June 23-24 and were named state champions after being undefeated 4-0. The team will play in the Global World Series in Myrtle Beach on July 11-15. Students get black belts

Premier Martial Arts held its summer belt graduation and black belt presentation for two of its students on June 23 with special guest Master Ed Saenz.

Eliya Husid and Joseph Pendergrast both received their black belt. They also showcased some of the skills they learned over their years of training.

The performance team also performed prior to the black belt presentation.

Celebrity basketball coaches to play golf

Famous basketball coaches will participate in the 1st Annual Celebrity Golf Classic on July 17 at The River Golf Club to support Nations of Coaches.

Basketball coaches include: Roy Williams, Tubby Smith, Bobby Cremins, Paul Hewitt, Cazzie Russell, Kenny Payne, Brian Gregory, Ron Hunter, Charlton Young, Cliff Warren, Eddie Payne, Murry Bartow, Dugger Balcum, Buzz Peterson, Brad Brownell, Eddie Biedenbach and Mike Young.

The five-man scramble will begin with registration at 11:30 a.m., lunch at 12:15 p.m. and a shotgun start at 1:15 p.m. Teams will consist of one celebrity coach and four participants, according to a news release. They also will receive an autographed hat and team picture with that coach.

"Participants also have the opportunity to online bid to play with a particular participating coach," the news release said. "Winners will receive an autographed basketball by celebrity coaches in a trophy case."

Nations of Coaches is a nonprofit organization with a Christian background that leads coaches "into greater success in their sport and in their faith walk," according to the release.
