Dolls needed

The Nancy Carson Library is asking for donations of unwanted dolls that are 11 to 14 inches tall, such as Barbie, Jem, Monster High and Maxie.

Dolls can be male or female, and broken dolls will be accepted.

Donations are needed by Aug. 3.

Call the library at (803) 279-5767 or visit at 135 Edgefield Road.

 

Holiday closings

Aiken County offices will be closed today, along with landfills and convenience centers.

Offices will reopen at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, and landfills will open at regular time.

Residential sanitation pickups scheduled for today will be picked up on Thursday. Pickups scheduled for Thursday will remain on schedule.

Smith crowned State Teen Miss

Auburn Celeste Smith, 15, a rising junior at Fox Creek High School, was crowned the 2012 State Teen Miss at the Glass Slipper Natural Beauty Pageant held in June.

She was among 53 girls competing for the crown. Smith also won Overall Best Personality, Overall Best Theme Wear and second in the People's Choice Award.

Smith is the daughter of Tommy and Anna-Lori Kitchens, and granddaughter of Wayne and Celeste Spence, all of North Augusta.

CMONA offers store discount

Community Ministry of North Augusta is offering half off clothing, shoes and purses through July 21.

An extra 10 percent discount is being offered by donating three items to the food bank. Items must have a current expiration date. Needed items include: peanut butter, jelly, canned meats, canned fruits and cereal. First Tuesdays are $1 “director's choice” sales.

CMONA thrift store is open Tuesday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The store is located at 646 E. Buena Vista Ave.
