Thomas nominated for iReport Award

Byron Thomas, a 2011 graduate of North Augusta High School and upcoming sophomore at University of South Carolina Beaufort, was one of 36 nominees for a CNN iReport Award.

Nominees were chosen out of about 15,000 iReports approved by CNN in 2011, according to cnn.com.

The iReport Awards ceremony was held Saturday in Atlanta, Ga. To view the video that landed Thomas a nomination, visit ireport.cnn.com/docs/DOC-709533. The video is about Thomas hanging a Confederate flag in his dorm room and being asked by university officials to take it down.

Quilt guild meeting

The Pieceful Hearts Quilting Guild meets Mondays and Thursdays at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church, 471 W. Martintown Road.

The group meets from 7 to 9 p.m. Mondays, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursdays.

The guild is open to all ages and levels of experience, including those wanting to learn how to quilt.

Chamber president sought

Brian Tucker, president of the Greater North Augusta Chamber of Commerce, recently announced that he has taken a job with the Georgetown County Chamber of Commerce in Georgetown, S.C.
