Savannah River Brassworks

Posted: June 19, 2012 - 5:26pm  |  Updated: June 27, 2012 - 11:28pm

The Savannah River Brassworks quintet will perform at Music in the Park on Thursday, with an opening performance by the RECing Crew Chorus.

The group will perform “a broad spectrum of traditional and classic brass material as well as some opera transcriptions and a wonderful collection of original and Baroque transcriptions written by our own Dr. Rudy Volkmann,” said member Fabio Mann.

The group consists of Mann, trumpet; Rachel Misner, French horn; Steve Pruitt, trombone; Volkmann, tuba; and Josh Workman, trumpet.

Mann said the group has been invited to participate at Music in the Park each year.

“The concert is always very well attended and the audience is very enthusiastic about the group and our material,” he said. “We have come to think of this concert and its audience as friends with whom we share our latest musical adventures.”

Mann said the group is developing a program with Dr. Richard Cook and Reid Memorial Church’s concert series that will feature brass quintets.

“It will be one of this area’s biggest showcases of high velocity, high-powered brass music and will likely draw brass enthusiasts from the entire CSRA,” Mann said.
