Caroline Yano entered high school with a goal in mind: keep making good grades.
“Education is a big part of your future,” said the Fox Creek High School freshman of the importance of doing well in school. “It’s the basis for other things in your life.”
She spends about an hour each day studying and preparing for her classes, she said.
Her favorite class this year is history.
“I like learning about our past,” said the 14-year-old.
Although history is her favorite class, she plans to major in marine biology when she gets to college.
“It interests me a lot. I like learning about marine life,” she said, adding that she hopes to attend a college along the coast to make the most of her future major.
Studying has played a major part in Caroline’s ability to maintain a 4.9 GPA, but it’s not all she does.
Caroline has played soccer since she was little and is a member of Fox Creek’s soccer team. She also played volleyball for the school this year.
Outside of school, she’s active in the community through her church, Grace United Methodist, and participates in many activities at the church.
“It’s very important to be well-rounded,” said Caroline. “You need to have more than good grades. Your personality and character are also important.”
Caroline is the daughter of Steve and Debbie Yano.
