North Augusta Public Safety held a promotions ceremony March 20 led by Director of Public Safety, John Thomas. Luke Sherman in criminal investigations and Andy Cook and Jason Ramey in the patrol division were all promoted to the rank of Corporal.

Sponsorship available for teacher banquet

The 2012 Annual Teacher Appreciation Celebration will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. May 16 at the North Augusta Community Center.

Aiken County Area 2 teachers will be honored at the event. Cost is $15 to sponsor a teacher.

Corporate sponsorships also are available, and the deadline is May 10.

Egg hunts

Many community Easter egg hunts are coming up, beginning with Thursday's egg hunt and carnival at Chick-fil-A.

Local businesses, including North Augusta Today, will offer crafts, candy and games. There will be an egg hunt at 6 p.m. for children ages 5 and younger, and an egg hunt at 6:45 p.m. for children ages 6 to 12. The carnival will last from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

There will be golden eggs in the hunt provided by local businesses redeemable for goodies at their booths.

Also coming up is the community egg hunt provided by the North Augusta Optimist Club and City of North Augusta at Lions Memorial Field at 10 a.m. April 7.

Egg hunts will be divided by age as follows: 1-3, 4-6 and 7-10. There will be three prize baskets for each age group.

There also will be games, Easter tattoos and sidewalk chalk before the hunt beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Belk announces expansion plans

A recent news release announced expansion and remodeling plans for Belk located in Martintown Plaza.

The $3.5 million project will allow the store to carry more brands and merchandise. The store will increase from 20,000 square feet to 64,000 square feet.

Construction is expected to be complete by September, with a grand opening Oct. 10, according to the news release.

Post 71 announces Legionnaire of the Year

Ed Vanderhoff was recently announced as the 2011 Legionnaire of the Year Award recipient at American Legion Post 71's annual birthday dinner.

Vanderhoff works in the kitchen for breakfast and monthly supper meals.
