School Notes

• The Aiken County school district office will accept applications for Expanded School Choice through March 31 for the 2012-13 school year. Applications will be available at acps.schoolfusion.us and can be faxed to (803) 641-2636, or taken or mailed to the district office at 1000 Brookhaven Drive, Aiken, SC 29803. Parents are reminded that there are a limited number of openings and applications will be accepted by date and time order. Decisions on school choices will be made after spring break.

• The seventh annual Athletic Department Golf Tournament will be held Sunday at Mount Vintage Plantation Golf Course. Registration starts at 1:30 p.m. and the shotgun start will be at 2 p.m. Individual entry is $80; entry for a team of four is $300; and sponsorships are available for $125. The tournament, which is captain’s choice format, includes 18 holes of golf, a box lunch and a golfer’s gift bag. All checks should be made payable to FCHS Athletics. • The PTCA meeting will be at 7 p.m. Thursday in the conference room.

• The following pupils have become members of the Double H Reading Club: Kennajsha Jones, James Creasy, Emily Echols, Jake Shuford, Peyton Rabun, Cole Jackson, Savannah Luke, Chloe Nault, Ansley Barbee, Darius Johnson, Reagan Creasy, Malcolm Doe, Zane Pettigrew, Owen Blattel, Brayden Fricks and Michael Adams.

• The following pupils are Bumble Bee Writing Award winners for March: Brenna Buff, kindergarten; Dillon Adams, first grade; Nathan Bear, second grade; Ella Rae James, third grade; Alia Harrison, fourth grade; and Gabrielle Moss, fifth grade.

• Registration forms for the Breakaway Bees are due Friday. Practices will be held at 6:55 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Parents are also needed to help with the Breakaway Bees. The parents will help coach Fralick by attending practices on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. The commitment is less than five hours a week during the six-week session. • Science Day is 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday.

• Tuesday is the end of the third nine weeks.

• The running club starts Tuesday.

• The writing portion of the Palmetto Assessment of State Standards test will be given to fifth-graders Tuesday and March 21.

• Palmetto Assessment of State Standards writing test will be administered to eighth-grade pupils Tuesday and March 21.

• Chaperone training will be held at 7:45 a.m. Thursday and Friday.

• School Improvement Council meets at 3 p.m. Monday, April 16 and May 14.

• The following made the book club: 100 books: Isabelle Jones and Zoey Roberts; 200 books: Katie Swann, Connor Kirkland and Graham Morlan; 300 books: Payton Lazenby, Hudson Rudd and Blake Jiunnies; 400 books: Patrick Green and David Elam; 600 books: Abby Cook; 900 books: Colby Hawes; 1,000 books: Colby Hawes; 1,100 books: Colby Hawes and Grady Walker; 1,200 books: Grady Walker; and page master II, Jude Walker.

• Congratulations to Duncan Crowder, who will represent the school at the state National Geographic Bee, which will be March 30 at the South Carolina State Museum.

• The Foreign Language Honor Society FLAIR at Augusta State University inducted 54 students who maintained an A for three semesters in Spanish:
