Dear Members of The SC State Government and media, the reason for this letter is to inform you that The Aiken County School Board and The Aiken County School Administrators have determined that six school buildings are in very much need of repairs and/or expansion. There are many, many parents and especially students and faculty that are very, very concerned that the only thing that has been tried to fund these very needed repairs/expansions was A VERY, VERY OVER-PRICED REFERENDUM that failed by a 70 percent total of the voter turn-out BACK IN 2010!! I don’t think that I need to inform you that this WAS TWO YEARS AGO, AND MOST OF THE PROBLEMS STILL REMAIN!!
One of the local concerned parents proposed a one cents sales tax, much like some counties in Georgia, in order to expedite the source of the much needed funding that the six schools in Aiken County NEED!!
When the aforementioned concerned parent proposed the one cent sales tax, two of The Board of Education Members seemed to lead us to believe that The SC State Legislature would have to approve of this one cent sales tax which would be for UPGRADING AIKEN’S SCHOOLS!! If this is true; and The Legislature has to approve it; THEN PLEASE, PLEASE DO WHATEVER YOU MUST IN ORDER TO “GET THE BALL ROLLING!
Please help in this very, very needed funding.
Timothy (Tim) Monroe Bledsoe
