We have had a really nice winter so far this season, and with the springlike weather, we have started seeing our lovely city fill with color once again.
With spring comes the annual Student Art Show and competition sponsored by the North Augusta Cultural Arts Council. The show will be in the Arts and Heritage Center, 100 Georgia Ave. The show opens with a reception open to the public from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday and ends March 16.
The artwork of the winners from the competition will remain on display in the second-floor balcony gallery at the Arts and Heritage Center until April 2. We have many talented students and remarkable art teachers in our community. You will find a wide range and styles of art from kindergarten through 12th grade. It is divided into elementary, middle and high school. Each level has a first-, second- and third-place winner, and several honorable mentions. There is a Best of Show winner that can come from any of the schools.
Monetary prizes are given for first place in each level: $25 for elementary, $50 for middle, $75 for high school and $100 for the Best in Show. Ribbons are given for second- and third-place and honorable mention winners.
Here is your chance to support the youth in our community in their exploration of the world of art.
The Arts and Heritage Center is having an Untitled: Juried Artist of the AHCNA exhibit that will be running March 19 until April 13. All artists have been allowed to choose their own subject matter for this exhibit.
The artists taking part are Margaret Augustine, Elizabeth Barns, Jim Bradshaw, John Bigger, Mary Ann Brock, Kathleen Chandler, Wanda Dansereau, Dennis Estep, Fritz Hommes, Yvonne Kinney, Mike Kleiman, John Krok, Kay Lovingood, Mary McCullah, Joy McDowell, Judy McQueen, Brian Mooney, Shirley Reynolds, Andrea Spano, Dinah Waterman, Diane White and Ondaree Kelly-Tucker.
There will be studio art and three-dimensional artwork on display.
Don’t forget to stop in and support local Artists of the Month at the Arts and Heritage Center, Jim Bush Flower Shop, North Augusta Family Y, the Greater North Augusta Chamber of Commerce, The Beveled Edge Art and Framing Gallery and the Artists of the Month featured in North Augusta Today. We will soon have an Artist of the Month on exhibit at Quality Printing and at the local Regions Bank, so keep a look out for that announcement.
North Augusta Artists Guild members look forward to exhibiting their original art in other local business so please contact me if you would like to take part in this program.
Keep a smile on your face and art in your life. A world without art is just “eh.”
