North Augusta High studentsexemplify community's best

North Augusta High School held its Hall of Fame ceremony for the Class of 2012 on Feb. 7.

The Hall of Fame dates back 41 years and has more than 400 recipients, according to Principal Todd Bornscheuer.

The program recognizes 10 seniors involved in school and community activities who display outstanding char­acter. The students positively represent the school and community through extracurricular and academic pursuits.

Thirty-two students were nominated. Faculty narrowed down the list through voting.

LOGAN SMITH

• Treasurer of National Beta Club, National Honor So­ciety and senior class

• Editor-in-Chief of The Yellow Jacket newspaper

• Selected to Palmetto Girls State

• Played JV soccer her freshman and sophomore year

• Attends First Baptist Church of North Augusta where she has participated in Laces4Love ministry and mission trips

• Palmetto Fellow, Furman Scholar, University of South Carolina Aiken Scholar and University of South Carolina Upstate Scholar

• Plans to attend Furman or Clemson University and double major in business and graphic design

 

BENTLEY SAM

• Member of Student Coun­cil, National Beta Club, Future Business Leaders of America, National Honor Society, The Yellow Jacket newspaper and Science Bowl team

• Member of the varsity swim team since eighth grade; received the Coach’s Award his freshman and sophomore years

• Participated in Palmetto Boys State; received the West Point Military Leadership Award

• University of South Caro­lina Aiken Scholar, Lander University Junior Fellow and Coker College Scholar

• Will attend Clemson Uni­versity and major in architecture

 

REBECCA RUDISILL

• Activities Editor of the Sandspurs yearbook, vice president of Mu Alpha Theta math club, French Club vice president, service chairwoman for National Honor Society, scrapbook and banner committee chairwoman and historian for National Beta Club, member of the NAHS Mentor Program, treasurer of Drama Club

• Participated in Science Olympiad and Columbia College Math Day for girls

• Member of Grace United Methodist Church; is Youth Council secretary, sings in the choir and participates in the drama team

• Served as a junior volunteer at University Hospital and “volunteen” at MCG Children’s Medical Center

• National Merit Finalist, AP Scholar with Honor Award winner, Furman Scholar, Wofford Scholar, University of South Carolina Aiken Scholar

• Plans to attend a four-year college in South Carolina and major in biology

 

VINNY MILLER

• 2012 South Carolina Foot­ball Player of the Year, ESPN High School Player of the Year, ESPN High School Offensive Player of the Year, All Region Offensive Player of the Year, chosen to play for the 2012 North-South All-star team

• Student Council member

• Served as sophomore class president

• Played varsity football and baseball

• Placed fourth in the State Strength Meet as a freshman, and first three years in the Region Strength Meet

• Recreational league football camp instructor, Pass-Punt-Kick coach, youth football camp coach

• Participated in Relay for Life, Car Wash for Cancer, Hammond Hill Elementary School carnival and Mossy Creek Elementary book bag donation project

• Received a scholarship to play football at The Citadel and will major in mechanical engineering

 

JILLIAN JAMES

• Community work includes T-RECs for the disabled, Steven Creek Church Soles for Souls, It’s Spooky to be Hungry and volunteering at the Family Y

• Plans to attend University of South Carolina Aiken and follow a medical career into dentistry or physical therapy
MATTHEW LARRY

• Recipient of Clemson’s Challenge for Academically Talented Students and Aiken County’s Celebration of Character Award

• Rawl Family Scholarship and Alpha Phi Alpha Fra­ternity Scholarship recipient

CLARA FORMBY

• Plans to major in biology and would like to do medical missions
