Juan Wiley hopes to fill a gap through his new store, Just 4 Kidz Second Chance Clothing & Accessories.
“I looked around to see what the need was in the area and thought that we needed a store like this here,” he said.
He began preparing in November and opened the store Jan. 3.
The children’s clothing and accessories consignment shop also accepts some donations of children’s clothing.
The store features a variety of clothing for children from infancy to age 12. Clothing brands include Polo, Ralph Lauren and Old Navy.
Its accessories include items such as belts, hats and scarves, and the store will soon have handmade bows, Wiley said.
“This store offers parents a chance to get very nice clothing for their children,” he said. “It’s very affordable, and it’s good to have a place like this for people who may not be able to afford to buy newer clothes, especially in this economy.”
Wiley’s experience as a parent and having a career focused around children has been helpful in launching the new business venture. Wiley has owned Just 4 Kidz, an after-school program and recreational facility at 846 Edgefield Road, for three years, and prior to that he was a local director for Childcare Network, he said.
“I understand what kids like and I understand what parents like,” he said. “You have to have things people like and want.”
In the short time the store has been open, people are already excited about it, he said.
“Everyone has been receptive to it,” he said. “Now people don’t have to go to Aiken or Augusta for things like this.”
