North Augusta Public Safety Sgt. Wayne Duke and Lt. Tim Pearson were recognized for their years of service to the City of North Augusta at the city council meeting on Monday.
Duke began his employment in March 1989 and will retire Jan. 5. Pearson began his job in February 1981 and retires Dec. 27.
Mayor Lark Jones said to Pearson, “You always have been a champion for seat belt use and that is not a bad thing to be known for.”
Pearson said North Augusta is one of the best places to live and it’s where he chooses to call home.
Duke said though he’s not originally from North Augusta, he believes it’s a wonderful community and he takes pride in being part of it.
In other business, the wastewater capacity transfer and wastewater services agreement between the cities of North Augusta and Aiken and Aiken County, as well as removing Posey Funeral Home, Clear Channel and WRDW-TV (Channel 12) from the Neighborhood Preservation corridor district was approved on final reading.
