Sally Van Peursem works full time as a medical transcriptionist. She felt the need for something to occupy her spare time and chose to try her hand in art. Sally chose watercolors as her medium, and from 2000 to 2003 she took watercolor classes from local Augusta artist Jim Gensheer.
There she learned the fundamentals of painting with watercolors. She also learned that, while talent is important, the proper techniques and skills are also important in painting..
When Van Peursem moved to North Augusta in 2011 she continued taking classes with Dr. Suzanne Thigpen, a North Augusta artist.
Van Peursem became a member of the North Augusta Artist Guild. She states, “The Guild has offered me the opportunity to share my interest in art, as well as learning and improving my skills from other members.” She also enjoys entering and showing her work in Guild-sponsored shows.
Her subjects in watercolor include landscapes, still life, as well as her pet portraits. Van Peursem’s paintings have been shown in at The Beveled Edge, Chamber of Commerce and at Bush’s Florist.
