• MAP testing is Thursday-

• Interim reports will be sent home Thursday.

• Fall pictures will be taken Sept. 18.

• Chick-fil-A Spirit Night is
5-8 p.m. Sept. 18.

• Students will be released at 2 p.m. Sept. 12 for early release day.

• Thursday is Black Out Day.

• There will be a senior assembly Tuesday at 10:10 a.m. on making college/career count.

• Interim reports will be sent home Sept. 19.

• Bumble Bee Writing winners: Hannah Dyches, first grade; Drew Pond, second grade; Keith Whitaker, third grade; Chloe Powell, fourth grade; and Luis Galan, fifth grade.

Tanner Preissler won the summer postcard drawing and received a basket of writing supplies. His postcard was from Myrtle Beach, S.C.

• School spirit T-shirts are to be worn each Friday for Spirit Days.

• Orders for the 2013 yearbook are being accepted. Yearbooks will be hardcover and in color. Yearbooks are being sold for $25 until Jan. 18. To reserve a copy, send the order form and payment to Paige Geddes or Jessica Jackson or visit www.jostensyearbooks.com. If you want the pupil’s name engraved on the yearbook, it must be paid for by Jan. 18. Yearbooks can be purchased with cash or a check made out to Merriwether Elementary School. • To volunteer at the school, a volunteer/chaperone training must be attended every year. Training will not be offered after December. • The book fair will be in the media center through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. daily, except it will be from 7:30 a.m. to noon Friday. It will be open from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday for Family Reading Night.

• There will be a PTO board meeting at 3 p.m. Sept. 12.

• Family Read Night will be at 6 p.m. Thursday.

• Recess monitors are needed for the following: 10:10-10:30 a.m., third grade; 10:40-11 a.m., fifth grade; and 12:30-12:50 p.m., second grade.

• Used clothes are needed for the health clinic, especially large sizes.

• Prescription medicines must be accompanied with a copy of the doctor’s order to be accepted by the school nurse. Inhalers and EPI pens must be in their original box with the pupil’s name label from the pharmacy.

• The Looney Tunes Savings Club is open Tuesdays for deposits.

• The Scholastic Book Fair will be Thursday through Sept. 20 from 7:15 a.m. to 3 p.m., and Sept. 21 from 7:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sales tax of 7 percent is charged.

• Kindergarten will have pajama day with Mother Goose (Wilma Allen) on Friday.

• There will be a Teddy bear parade/picnic for kindergarteners on Sept. 21.

• An informational meeting for the Europe 2013 trip will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday in room 509.

• The first meeting of the Last Act Drama Society is Thursday in Room 305.

• Sophomore Advisory fees will be collected Monday through Sept. 21. Make payments in room 506 before third period.

• There is a mandatory meeting for members of the National Honor Society on Monday in the media center.

• The Environmental Club will meet at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in Room 415. Club membership is $5. Future meetings will be held the second Tuesday monthly.

• The first meeting for Freshman Advisory is Tuesday. Forms to join are due Friday. There will be a $5 late fee charge on forms submitted after Friday.

• There will be a work meeting for The Painted Quill on Thursday. Bring to the meeting poems, plays, journals, essays and drawings.

• Spark Worship meets at 7:30 a.m. Thursdays in front of the gym.

• Fees for Junior Advisory will be collected through Sept. 28. Make payments in room 212 or 404 before fourth period. Fees must be paid before joining the group.

• Members of the National Honor Society who have already been inducted need to pay dues of $10 by Oct. 1. Turn money in before fifth period with Mrs. Creamer in room 305.

• Jostens will be on campus Oct. 10 during all three lunches and will collect the balance on class rings.

• The Class of 2014 ring ceremony will be at 7 p.m. Oct. 24. Participants need to arrive by
6:15 p.m. The last day to sign up is Oct. 10.

• Chick-fil-A cookies will be sold for $1.25 during lunch Tuesday and Thursdays, and sandwiches will be sold for $4 on Fridays.

• Box Tops for Education should be turned in to homeroom teachers.

• PowerSchool’s Parent Portal for parents and pupils is available. Previous IDs and passwords still work for returning pupils. If new to the school, contact the main office to receive a user name and password.

• Student Council will have its first meeting from 3:20-3:45 p.m. Thursday in Mrs. Arnold’s room.

• Sparkle Car Wash on Edgefield Road, across from the Nancy Carson Library, will donate a portion of car wash proceeds during September to the Gifted and Talented Program. In order for a portion of a car wash proceed to go to the program, customers must use the code 5014.

• Season passes are on sale for $20 per person. The passes are good for all home football, basketball and volleyball games this school year. There are coupons from local businesses on the back of each season pass.

• The school collects Box Tops and used ink cartridges.

• Volleyball practice is held every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and on Thursdays from 12:30 to 2 p.m., with the exception of game days and choir trips.

• Book donations for the school library can be dropped off at the school library.

• Victory Baptist Church’s Awana Clubs are held every Wednesday night from 6 to 8 p.m. for children ages 2 through sixth grade.

• Three-week progress reports will be sent home Friday.

• Sept. 26 is a half day due to the SCACS teachers convention.
