Now our lady’s getting older
But she’s much too young to die
And some have hurled stones at her
And that makes me want to cry
Yes some have turned their back on her
And some have cursed her name
Although she loved and nourished them
Now they should be ashamed
For she’s fought so many battles
And she’s always stood for right
And so many folk believed in her
That they stood up to fight
When she was born long long ago
In seventeen seventy six
Her children proudly stood up to fight
Against oppression that was surely sick
But now she’s wounded and she’s sore
From a battle that is within
And they’re carving on her tombstone
The date she died and then
But remember please that she was born
One nation that was under God
And with our prayers God will lift her up
Long as good men walk this sod
