Posted: April 30, 2013 - 2:49pm

North Augusta Public Safety responded to a reported carjacking around 9:20 a.m. Tuesday that left the victim injured.

A 49-year-old man from Elgin, S.C. told officers that he was approached by a black man wearing black clothing while in the parking lot of AutoZone on Atomic Road, according to an email sent by public safety’s Lt. Tim Thornton.

The man asked the victim for a cigarette and then hit him in the head and tried to cut him with what was suspected to be a knife.

The suspect left in the victim’s black 2006 Suzuki Forenza in an unknown direction. The victim was taken to Aiken Regional Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
